Cut for Time: Judas Was a Real Treat
Wednesday Apr 05, 2023
Wednesday Apr 05, 2023
Welcome back to another episode of the Cut for Time Podcast! This week, Pastor Clay and Eric dug into the sermon from Sunday about John 12:1-8, the anointing of Jesus in Bethany. An interesting thing about this story is that Judas is viewed as being strict and heartless for chastising Mary, but he is not wrong. Mary did waste a lot of expensive perfume. What's the lesson we learn from Mary's extravagance?

Sunday Message: A Meal with Chosen Family
Monday Apr 03, 2023
Monday Apr 03, 2023
Scripture: John 12:1-8
Series: Meeting Jesus at the Table
It's the last week of Lent, and our scripture comes from among some of the last things that Jesus did on this side of glory. Before all the pomp and pageantry of Palm Sunday and the events of Holy Week, Jesus spends a quiet, normal night in the home of some of his friends. Until Mary changes everything by anointing Jesus' feet. She shows her love and care for Jesus; how can we show that same love and care as we go through this week?

Cut for Time: The Party Wasn’t Going Well
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Can you believe it's our 100th episode? Thanks to everyone who supports our show. Pastor Clay and Eric met up over Zoom to discuss the party at the Pharisee's house that wasn't going well. Luke 14 is a pivotal chapter in Jesus' ministry and Luke's emphasis on the outcasts. How do we respond when God calls us to bigger things, and what excuses get in our way?

Sunday Message: Empty Chairs at the Table
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
Sunday Mar 26, 2023
Scripture: Luke 14:15-24
Series: Meeting Jesus at the Table
We find Jesus in scripture today where we left him last week: as the guest at the table of an unnamed Pharisee. Sometime tries to restore some order after Jesus chastised the guests and the host, but Jesus would rather teach the group about the nature of God's kingdom. He tells a parable about a meal where all the "right" people are full of excuses and all the "wrong" people get fed. How do we respond to God's invitation to be a part of the Kingdom?

Sunday Message: Making Room
Sunday Mar 19, 2023
Sunday Mar 19, 2023
Scripture: Luke 14:7-14
Series: Meeting Jesus at the Table
When you get invited somewhere fancy, where do you sit? Is there a place that looks more honorable than the others? Do you dive for that chair or sit back? Jesus noticed that the Pharisees dove for the place of honor and made the host sort it all out. When Jesus has the opportunity to be a host, there is no place of honor, there is just room for all. How can we host more like Jesus and make room for others?

Cut for Time: This is an Earthy Story
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Eric Stearns and Pastor Clay met up over Zoom to discuss Sunday's message about a weird story from Luke's gospel. A dinner at the home of a Pharisee is interrupted by a woman and sets off a string of events that leaves everyone a little shaken. How do we deal with interruptions?

Sunday Message: Dinner Interrupted
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
Scripture: Luke 7:36-50
Series: Meeting Jesus at the Table
Have you ever felt like you were operating in an "interruption overload"? We have a plan for the day or an allotted time for task, but then our phone chimes, someone pops in to ask a quick question, or we get distracted. In Luke's gospel, Simon the Pharisee and Jesus show us two different ways to respond to interruptions. Which one works better?

Sunday Message: The Welcome Table
Sunday Mar 05, 2023
Sunday Mar 05, 2023
Scripture: Matthew 9:9-13
Series: Meeting Jesus at the Table
Of all the things Jesus did to annoy and offend the Pharisees, one of their most frequent complaints is who Jesus ate with. At a party where Jesus could have eaten with anyone, Jesus chose to eat with tax collectors and outcasts. That's good news for us because Jesus would choose to eat with us, too.
