Today marks the beginning of the season of Lent and the beginning of a new message series here at the Canton UMC. Each week during Lent, we are focusing on one of the "meal stories" in the gospels, beginning with the one found in all four gospels, the feeding of the 5,000+.

 

What would you do if you were in a remote location with limited resources and were expected to feed a large group of people? What would you eat? Where would you put it? Where would you sit? Thankfully, the disciples find all the answers they need in Jesus as they dine out in nature, alfresco, on a hillside in Galilee.

"Walk by faith and not by sight" "Faith over fear" These are a couple of phrases that you may have heard over the years, and they are great when they're abstract, when there's a level of disconnect. When you have to live them out, it's harder. That's how faith is sometimes. Pastor Clay helps us think more about what we mean by faith in our Christian context.

"Why do bad things happen to good people?" "How could God...?" "If God is all-good and all-loving, why did...?" When things in life happen that challenge us, these questions immediately come to mind. As people of faith, they are important questions for us to ask. How can we believe what we believe about God? The answer is wrapped up in theodicy. Pastor Clay demystifies that word and gives us an example of how theodicy works.
